2008 Pledge Incentive Program

How does it work?

All participants in the 2008 Westover Shore to Shore Relay are encouraged to support the event beyond their actual participation. With literally thousands of charities across Canada looking for funding, what better way to donate to a charitable organization than through an event that you are participating in!

The Westover Treatment Centre provides residential treatment for men and women addicted to tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. It also provides residential treatment for those affected by someone else's addiction. Its service area includes the 10 counties of Southwestern Ontario, three of which will be crossed during the relay. With funding for addiction services from the provincial government nearly frozen since 1991, events such as the Shore to Shore Relay are crucial in raising additional funds to maintain these services.

While many competitors may already give to a variety of charitable organizations, the Shore to Shore Relay will be giving back to those participants who support the event with pledges.

How do I get my company involved?

Many companies make donations to a variety of charitable organizations. Contributions may be through a national fundraising campaign where their investment is likely a less significant amount. Other companies give on a regional or personal level, which can make a major impact closer to home.

While many people may have been affected by a family member or close friend's substance abuse, not everyone has had the opportunity to give back to an organization such as the Westover Treatment Centre. Here is an invitation for a business of any size to help their employees support a cause they believe in.

Not only do such corporate donations support their employee in raising funds for their choice of charitable organization, it also promotes fitness and team building.

All corporate donations are tax deductible. The Westover Treatment Centre will issue receipts for any pledge that is made, regardless of the amount.

What is the incentive to raise more funds?

Participants who raise individual pledges in amounts of $500 or more towards the 2008 Shore to Shore Relay will be awarded gift certificates valued at 10% of their pledge contribution. Gift certificate choices are from either:

Is there a goal this year to raise a certain amount of pledges?

With nearly 80 teams expected this year, we aim to raise a minimum of $15,000 in pledges.

Friendly competition amongst team members to raise pledges is a great motivator, and may even start a ‘pay it forward' momentum! One team has already raised $1,500 for the event. Another team has also worked with the senior management of their company to match their registration fees; therefore, the company will receive a taxable receipt for $950.00. We encourage you to explore opportunities with your employer as to how to raise additional funds for the event. Be as creative as possible! Any amount pledged is important to the WestoverTreatment Centre. Help us surpass our goal of $15,000!

Please keep in mind that any amount pledged is given a charitable tax receipt from the Westover Treatment Centre towards the person's 2008 personal income tax return.
